You see ads for skin care products every day and they all claim to have the secret to having clear skin. The funny thing is they don’t ACTUALLY tell you what the secret to clear skin is, they want you to use the solution (literally) that they formulated. As with most things involving the human organism, the answer comes from a natural source and need, your diet. This is the first of a series of blogs focused on eating clean and clearing up your skin. In this series we will outline foods that help with various skin scenarios so you can have your face flashing that glowing smile without any blemishes or acne taking focus away from it.

Dry or dull looking skin:

Foods like spinach, kale, broccoli, sweet potatoes, carrots, cantaloupe, red/yellow peppers, red chile peppers, butternut squash, asparagus, and pumpkin are all rich in Vitamin A which is great for increasing collagen production, which keeps your skin supple and soft. Keeping your collagen production at a healthy level will go a long way in fending off the earlier signs of aging which will slow down visible aging as a whole. Vitamin A is also a powerful antioxidant that will help reduce free radicals throughout your body which will reduce the havoc they wreak on your system.

For sources of Vitamin C look to broccoli, red bell peppers, green bell peppers, papaya, strawberries, cantaloupe, pineapple, kiwi, cauliflower, tangerine, and guava. Vitamin C also helps boost your body’s collagen production as well as it’s Elastin production, which keeps your skin firm and durable.

Vitamin E can be found in sunflower oil, safflower oil, nuts, seeds, spinach, tomatoes, turnip greens, mustard greens, peanut butter, pine nuts, and wheat germ. These sources will help keep your body producing the natural oils that prevent your skin from being dry.

In most cases you can make significant improvements to your skins appearance by adopting a healthier diet and incorporating regular exercise into your routine.
