Botox & Xeomin

ABOUT BOTOX & XEOMIN

Xeomin is an injectable neuromodulator, meaning it can temporarily alter the nerve impulses of targeted muscles, therefore reducing or eliminating contraction-induced wrinkles. Xeomin like other neruomodulators is made from the bacteria that causes botulism. Botulinum toxin blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity.

What is Botox?

Botox® is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures at our spa. Botox® is actually a trading name for the neurotoxic protein called botulinum toxin. It works by relaxing the contraction of muscles by temporarily blocking nerve impulses, which results in softening your look.

Whats the difference?

Xeomin is a “naked injectable,” meaning that it does not contain any additives. A benefit of a pure-form injectable is that the human body is less likely to become resistant to it. Some patients have developed antibodies to Botox and Dysport.

Botox and Xeomin are essentially identical in terms of the active neurotoxin ingredient. One unit of Botox = one unit of Xeomin.

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common disorder normally occurring in the underarms and hands (excessive sweating) can occur in both men and women.

How can it be treated?

Botox and Xeomin (OnabotulinumtoxinA ) is a natural, purified protein with the ability to temporarily block the secretion of the chemical that is responsible for “turning on” the body’s sweat glands. By blocking, or interrupting, this chemical messenger, botulinum toxin “turns off” sweating at the area where it has been injected.

The injections are very shallow, meaning that the product is injected just below the surface of the skin, where it remains.

Palmar (hand) excessive sweating, research shows that Botox is 80-90% effective. Repeat injections are needed after 6 months.

Results: Botox has been shown to result in an 82-87% decrease in sweating. Results start to be noticeable approximately 2 to 4 days after treatment with the full effects usually noted within 2 weeks. Dryness typically lasts 4 to 12 months

Frequently Asked Questions

For most patients it takes about a week up to two weeks for the full effect to take place. Alcohol should be avoided before your treatment and anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin should be avoided to help prevent bruising.

Potential Side Effects: The most common side effects is temporary bruising. Headaches are rare, but can last for 24 to 48 hours. Eyelid drooping occurs in a small percentage of patients but resolves within three weeks or less.

Anyone who has a neurological disease, pregnant or breastfeeding should not use Botox or Xeomin. Not all types of wrinkles respond to treatment, so discuss your areas of concern with your Pearl MedSpa injector.

Depending on the age and extent of the wrinkles the treatment will last about 3 to 6 months. After this period of time, the muscle response will return and along with it, the wrinkles will begin to form again. Quarterly treatments are common and help to prevent or slow the signs of time. The lines will eventually become less pronounced with time as the muscles relax.
